Today is a bright, crisp fall day. The sun is shining, the wind is blowing, and the air is invigorating (AKA downright chilly). It makes me feel happy, energetic, and rooted in blessings.
My greatest blessing is my family. I didn’t necessarily recognize how wonderful they were while I was growing up, but as I look back, I realize I am the luckiest person alive. I have two parents who were always (and still are) present physically and mentally. They spent time with me, supported me, challenged me, and reprimanded me; they let me know I was special in so many ways. Because of their support I grew up confident and content, believing I could do anything.
I also have two older siblings who were role models in every way. They took risks, stretched their wings, and followed their hearts. They allowed me to tag along, share their interests, and learn from their experiences. Even today, I still admire them and desire to be even more like them in so many ways.
As a family, we always took time to slow down and enjoy the simple pleasures of being together. My favorite memories include playing games, reading, chatting, and just “being” together…at home, at the beach, or camping. It was always enough. And as our family has grown to include lots of in-laws, cousins, nieces and nephews, that hasn’t changed. We don’t need extravagant vacations or elaborate parties, we just enjoy hanging out and enjoying each other’s company. What a blessing!
I also give thanks for my wonderful husband who loves me no matter what and always makes me laugh. We are opposites in many ways, and he repeatedly leads me out of my comfort zone to discover new things. The world is a larger place with him by my side, and there is so much to enjoy together. While I am normally a very cautious person, I can be a risk-taker with his unwavering encouragement and support. He pushes me to become a better version of myself.
I have also been blessed with a career that allows me to connect with numerous people, make a difference in the world, and use my love of organization, design, and office supplies. I have learned many lessons over the years about who I am, my strengths and weaknesses, how to adapt to change, and how to give, even when I feel I have nothing to offer. I am constantly challenged and continue to learn everyday.
I don’t share these things to brag about how lucky I am, but to share the love and thankfulness that fills my heart. I am overflowing with joy, and I want to share it with you. Hopefully my reflection reminds you of the wonderful people, things, and memories in your life. I encourage you to take a moment to savor them, revel in them even.
We are alive and well and truly blessed. Whenever you find yourself sad, stressed, anxious, or frustrated, remember your blessings and let everything else go. Those things will pass, but the joy and blessings last forever. When you honor them and share them with others, they strengthen and grow.
Give thanks and enjoy!
