Here we are again, two weeks into the eighty week challenge, on a journey to lose eighty pounds. I wasn’t expecting disappointment this soon, but I guess that is how the real world works. Even though I was hoping to lose another two pounds, my weight remained even this week. (For those of you not counting, that means I have 78 pounds to lose in the next 78 weeks.) I continued to work out for 15 minutes a day and drink my 32 ounces of water. Additionally I was armed to battle the afternoon munchies with my healthy treats. On a positive note, I only required my pre-packed snack twice last week. I guess that could be good news or bad news; either I was prepared to be diligent and healthy and didn’t need to face the “I think I’ll have a few chips” turned “I can’t believe I ate the whole bag” demons, or I ate so much earlier in the day there was no need for a snack. Hmmm.
I guess I need to pay a little more attention to the details. While I know this in itself may not lead to weight loss, I think I need to start keeping a food journal this week. I will write down everything I eat and take a few minutes to reflect on the day. For instance, today I sat through a 7-hour meeting, and I literally mean I SAT for nearly 7 hours straight. I was quite bored, and when I got home, I felt like cleaning out the kitchen cupboards (and I don’t mean clean in the sanitizing way). I was lucky I still had some of those prepared snacks from last week on hand to save me. I decided it could be helpful to see what triggers my food binges (certain activities, moods, the weather, etc.). I have a good idea of some causes, but I might be surprised by what I see. I also know that having to write down “half a bag of chocolate chips” might keep me from actually consuming them; that in itself is a plus.
While I believe what I learn through the journaling process will assist me in this weight loss journey, I don’t think it will produce results on the scale this week. I am still not ready to totally tackle my poor eating habits, so that leaves increasing my exercise. By the way I have been dragging myself out of bed this week, I am hesitant right now to commit to getting up any earlier to lengthen my work out (though I know I will need to soon). Instead, I decided to look for small ways to incorporate a little more exercise into my day. I found 15 simple ways to infuse more movement into the things I already do. I have compiled a list to share with you, and I will try to add a few each day. With that, here’s to moving more and (hopefully, eventually) weighing less!
